SHROPSHIRE PINE CHOSEN
FOR CUTTING EDGE CT SUITE
During spring 2009 Heartlands Hospital added to
its existing CT suite by installing one of the new
generation of CT scanners now emerging into
the market.
This was only the second machine
to be installed in the UK of this type,
(operating at much greater speed
with lower radiation dosage
to the patient) effectively doubling
the existing capacity.
Raybloc an existing supplier, for a number or years to Toshiba, were
selected to carry out the building and x-ray installation works which
included fitted storage equipment compliant with HTM 63.
Toshiba were looking for a unique approach for the look of the fitted
furniture, offering Heartlands Hospital, a CT suite as individual as its
Scanner. Shropshire Pine were appointed to carry this requirement
because of their experience and quality of furniture they have
produced for the healthcare market.
Shropshire Pine who have a well established manufacturing base,
were approached by Raybloc to undertake this individual exercise.
The overall specification was to be underpinned by the structure of
the formal NHS Specification of HTM 63, but to add a more modern
theme to compliment the remaining design criteria of the suite. This
included radiused internal walls, soft tone decoration and computer
controlled LED mood lighting, all adding to the purpose of greater
patient comfort.
This was achieved by incorporating radiused vertical elements to
both the base, wall units and sloping tops, this in turn added a new
dimension to the already well proven design of the Postformed
worksurfaces.
The outcome was a superior looking product that fitted the design
brief completely.
